February 7 is National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NBHAAD). The theme for NBHAAD, I Am My Brother's and Sister's Keeper: Fight HIV/AIDS, emphasizes the role that everyone can play in HIV prevention.
Compared to other racial/ethnic groups in the United States, Blacks/African Americans have a disproportionate burden of HIV and AIDS. Young black gay and bisexual men are especially affected. C2PLA as the oldest and largest Los Angeles County HIV youth coalition working to address the social determinants of health, has always prioritized supporting national HIV awareness days at the local level. This year we are excited to co-host an event with longtime coalition partner AltaMed. The “Let’s Have A Kiki” event will feature a special screening of AltaMed’s new web series “Kiki and Brunch” which takes a fresh approach on the PrEP conversation from the perspective of young Black and Latino gay and bisexual men. The event will feature a facilitated discussion with members from the cast, PrEP navigators, and supporters. There will also be fun and lively games including the very popular “Black Card Revoked” and “HIV Jeopardy.” Food and drinks will be provided. There will also be PrEP navigators on hand to help connect those interested in learning more about their PrEP options. This event is free and open to all!
