Today California became a sanctuary state as Governor Jerry Brown signed Senate Bill 54. This landmark bill is set to go into effect in January 2018, protecting the 2.3 million undocumented immigrants living in California. This law will largely prohibit state and local law enforcement agencies from questioning, holding, or sharing information about people with federal immigration agents if they have not been convicted of one or more offences from a list of crimes that are outlined in the Trust Act. While this is a landmark legislation for California in the face of the Trump administration's discriminatory actions, we still have to wait and see if federal officials will try to block it. The fight to protect our undocumented youth is not over! #nohumanbeingisillegal
